WIP: Angry Marines II

I got a little gluing done! Making two angry brother tacticals. The one is a pyromaniac flamer-wielding marine and the other is delivering a close-line to a guardsman. The flamer is still WIP, as I have ordered some cinematics from ArmorCast (linky here).

Another thing I have started looking into is their ride – the Anger mobile. I was thinking about mounting a huge bumper in front of a Rhino, and littering that with a squad of guardsmen being moved down + The must have angry driver sticking out of the hatch… That will be a fun project :)
Enjoy!

Angry Marines: Tactical Marines II

The other two of my first 4 angry marines have been completed. Sergeant Really Pissed Off and tactical marine Impaler. I’m still considering redoing the banner on the sergeant as I think that yellow on yellow is overdoing it, but that will be later on if I get around to it.

Angry Marines: Tactical Marines I

Weekend is comming, and it is time to reveal a secret. Som time ago I started my little Angry Marine project, and while showing you three of them as painting in progress, I kept the last one a secret. Yesterday I finished him and one of his buddies.

So here he is – the ass-whooping tactical marine!

I really has fun doing this first one – The pose of the kneeling marine legs almost invited for this pose, and a little greenstuff did the trick getting the guardsman in place.

The other marine finished yesterday was the sign kicking tactical.

Enjoy & have a nice weekend!

Display Cabinet – The Catachan Morgul Khamir

Let us open the display cabinet once more and have a look at one of my early w40k conversions. I made this for a painting challenge many years ago, wanting to kickstart a Catachan roughrider project. I wanted a bikergang, riding Space Marine bikes, so I made this one as a prototype on the gang, and that led me to abandon the thought of using the SM bike as mount for a whole unit of riders.

I remember the conversion work to be cumbersome and requiring many odd bits to make the rides stick on the bike. The legs for instance are those from a Ork wartrack. Another thing that struck me was the fact that such a large bike would have a hard time maneuvering in the jungle. So instead of making myself a whole gang of these it ended up as a one off.

I would use him as Morgul Khamir, if I was ever to field him in a battle, but that is another story…

Display Cabinet - Saving Private Cryan

Today we reopen the Display Cabinet, and have a look at the Saving Private Cryan diorama. I made this just when the new commissar models was released. I have always enjoyed the wounded soldier from the old Cadian command box. Nothing seems to be wrong with him, no bullet holes, no nothing, just scared and unhappy about the situation. That is the kind of whining that commissars can cure instantly, and the commissar model was perfect for a little do-or-die diorama.

I’ve build the base from balsa wood, with holes for the bases, so that the minis can be used for gaming as well. Balsa is a nice material as you can easily cut it with a hobby knife, and glue it with PVA. It does however have two characteristics that you need to be aware of:
1.     It breaks easily, meaning that precision cutting small bits is almost impossible.
2.     It curves when large areas are glued together, unless weighted down.

I painted the Cadian trooper standard uniform colors, and went for a light grey uniform for the commissar. I wanted commissar to be clean looking, just as if he just stepped out of his vehicle, whereas private Cryan is more dirty and muddy

All Things Zombie - Reloaded!

I just came across some great news today – All Things Zombie (ATZ) got reloaded, in a new version: ATZ: Final Fade Out, described here by Andy Slack:

I played ATZ extensively in the limbo between w40k 5th and 6th edition, but it has been a while since my last game, and now I see good reasons for going back to the zombie apocalypse. For those not familiar with ATZ it is a game that allows multiple players to compete or play cooperatively while trying to survive the horrors of a zombie apocalypse.

I have really enjoyed playing long campaigns where we have experienced everything from finding the cure to mutiny and havoc within the group of survivors. The game mechanics are very intense, as the reaction systems and random turn sequence really makes surviving hard. Great game that I would recommend to all who likes the post apocalyptic setting.

I made a lot of terrain with the help of TommyGuns Paper Models. It is really worth a visit as It holds great quality that can be yours for free :) I’ve made something like 30 of the houses – Some shown here:

For models I use some modern era minis from Offensive Miniatures and ShadowForge, some shown here:

Any modern gangers and coppers will do, and I’ve bought a lot from different ranges like Hasslefree Miniatures and Copplestone Miniatures. For zombies I bought 2 Modern Zombie Mob from Wargames Factory.

ATZ is worth a try – I’ll see if I can make a battlereport at some point when I get around to playing a game in near future…

Have a nice day!

Tallarn Chimeras

I’ve been working on a ride for Big Al (Al'Rahem) and the infantry platoon he will be leading. I wanted them to be mechanized, to benefit from the outflanking that he allows. That called for some Chimeras, and I wanted to change the profile a bit to make them stand out from the Chimeras I have for the Catachan Jungle boys.

SandWyrm have a cool guide for changing the Chimera from a Russian APC style to a Nato APC style by pushing the turret back. Check out the tutorial he made: http://theback40k.blogspot.se/2010/04/converting-set-back-chimeras-part-i.html

Another thing I wanted was ability to change the hull mounted weapon, as Heavy Bolter might not be the best choice for all scenarios. Magnetizing them is however easy, as all it calls for is a bit of plastic card glued on the inside of the hull + some rare earth magnets.

Enjoy & have a nice Sunday!

Tallarn Desert Raiders 1st squad

I got my hands on some Tallarn Desert Raiders recently - They have been om my wishlist for years! I wanted two things, one was desert camo uniforms and the other new bases in a desert theme, something that I have never done before.

Desert bases needed some research, as I really wanted something different from the hey-look-i-glued-sand-to-the-base feel that many Warhammer Tomb King armies got. So after researching with doctor Google I came across this tutorial: http://z8.invisionfree.com/herdstone/index.php?showtopic=25298 Avesome work by Garganthor, check it out as it is well worth the time.

The desert camo inspiration came from this one:

And this is the result - Have a nice weekend!

PIP: Angry Marines 3

I managed to get some more painting done yesterday evening, resulting in details beginning to emerge. Last Painting in Progress picture post before painting complete and the revelation of the secret miniature that is the fourth Angry Marine that is yet to be displayed :)

Have a nice day!

Space Wolf Drop Pod

I had this drop pod lying around for quite some time before painting it – To be honest I found it a pain to assemble and paint, despite the fact that I didn’t glue anything before painting it. None the less I’m quite pleased with the result. Especially the weathering made a nice impact.

Now I just have to paint a couple more to add real punch to a drop assault :)

Enjoy!

PIP: Angry Marines 2

I managed to get a little painting done last night, resulting in some progress on the Angry Marines. I Opted for dull camo colors on the unfortunate guardsmen, in order to keep the marines in focus.

Anyways, just a couple of Pictures to let show Progress on the Angry Marine project.

Ejoy!

Space Wolf Rhino / Razorback

I needed a ride for my Grey Hunters, so I got myself a Rhino – Well not really, I bought a Razorback, and assembled that so it could be a razorback when the Hunters wasn’t going to use their car. It is rather simple, just don’t glue the top hatch on the Rhino, and then you can switch the rhino & razorback top when needed. I magnetized the guns on the Razorback turret, just in case :)

To make the ride a little more Space-Wolfed-out I found some bits from the WFB Beastmen range – There I a lot of shields and stuff that is just right for Wolfifying vehicles and men.
