Captain Badrukk

Flash-gits never really caught my eye, nor my armylists. The old grumpy captain Badrukk model did however, and I really enjoyed painting this colourful character. After paint this badboy, I have been playing a little with the idea of creating some pirate flash-gits to accompany him. Until then he’ll have to do with some lootas as standins.

W40k Ork Rokkit Buggies

Here are the latest from the paint station 3 buggies! A pretty straight forward paintjob, but I must admit that I enjoy the result…

Modelling: Ork Deffkopta to Buggy (or bikes)

Do you want buggies instead of those koptas you got from AoBR? Here is my suggestion to converting the koptas to buggies. I really don’t like to field deffkoptas so I was looking for an alternative use for these models and here is the result of a little patience and some spare parts:

The hardest parts to come by are the wheels – I got mine off some old editions Ork trukks, but I suspect that Space Marine Bikers and other wheels will do just nicely as well. The conversion is as simple as it gets. I cut off the arm holding the rotor just above the engine. Used some green-stuff to cover the cut, and used the rotor blades to mount the front wheels.

Alternatively you could add only one wheel front and back and get a bike instead of a buggy.

Happy converting – I’m back with the painted version tomorrow :o)

The motor pool

While rearranging one of my cabinets I thought that I would take some pictures of the motor pool. Here it is: 1 Baneblade, 2 self-propelled artillery pieces, 4 Leman Russes and 3 APVs. That leaves me with one APV, a Hellhound and another super heavy before it is complete…

Leman Russ Vanquisher

I finalised painting the Vanquisher today, so commander Pask finally got himself a tank. The tank is one I got years back, and it has been a low priority ever since. It is still a low priority, as I don’t expect to play any games using it. None the less it was nice to finally get it done.

The mud on this one is quite different from what I use to do on my tanks. It had been smeared with sand by its previous owner, making the muddy areas textured.

Expanding the motorpool: Hellhound & Chimera

Modelling a Hellhound straight out of the box, and building a Chimera for company command or some veterans is what I have been doing the last couple of days. Lets look at the Chimera first…

I wanted a ride for company command or some veterans (depending on the list played), and I wanted it to look very different from my other 3 Chimeras that are assembled w/o any conversions or bling. The idea was to make a vehicle that was heavily loaded for a longer campaign in isolated areas, and with my army theme being Catachans I had to include a Rambo driver. The basis of this was the vehicle accessories sprue, backpacks from the hwy weapons sprue and bits from the battlefield accessories sprue.

The other tank assembled was a Hellhound – There is not much to see, but my reason for showing is to remind people to consider painting and gaming, before gluing everything in place. As you see I haven’t glued in the fuel, top cover and back hatch. Reason for that is that I need to get access to the barrels for priming and painting. Another thing not glued is the turret mounted weapon. The new Hellhound allows various variants, and if not glued, they’re interchangeable, allowing you to field e.g. a Devil Dog in stead of a Hellhound just by switching the turret weapon – No magnets, no magic :o)

W40k Orks – Grot cannon crew

My orks are slowly getting some paint time, and this weekend I managed to finalize the Kaboom Krew. The cannons where some I picked up in 2nd hand a long time ago and they are a mix of ork and non-ork guns. The crew for the cannons are WFB gobbos, and some bits from my bitsbox.

Thoughts on grot cannon crews: cheap, and useful if you can spare the heavy slot in your force organization. I think that this unit is just over 70 points for 3 cannons and 10 crew. That is ok for 3 high strength shots at BS 3, so I tend to have these little guys in my force. They’re usually deployed in cover, were they will remain for the entire game, or until they have annoyed the enemy enough to draw some fire (this usually breaks them…)

Da Kaboom Krew:

Banner dude, Da Chief & Da body-guard:

Ammo test dude, Da cleaner & Signal dude:

Display Cabinet – Steam-punk VC ’MMMM’

Last up is the Mechanized Mortuary Metal Monstrosity. It is the new and improved version of the black coach. It is a quite simple kitbash using the GW Black Coach and a resin kit from somewhere I have forgotten…

That was the last of my steam punk vampires…

Display Cabinet – Steam-punk VC ’Roboghulf’

Next up in the display cabinet from the steam punk VC project is the ‘Roboghulf’. The Vanghulf is obvious to go Killer-Robot, and I was instantly thinking w40k Dreadnaught, but didn’t want it to go too high tech. Luckily my local store has just the mini needed for the job – A mechanical Skaven, that with a little modelling could be turned into a mechanical vampire. After some dental work I added the casket from a black coach, some whirring and w40k bits and then the Roboghulf was ready for painting.

Display Cabinet – Steam-punk VC ’Doomsday Machine’

Next up in the display cabinet from the steam punk VC project is the ‘Doomsday Machine’. This is in fact a unit filler for a skeleton unit. It was build from various components, most notable the bone swam from Privateer Press. The bone swarm model was in fact one of the models that I had been looking for an excuse to paint for quite a while.

Display Cabinet – Steam-punk VC ’Rygnar’s Rocketeers’

Next up in the display cabinet from the steam punk VC project is Rygnar’s Rocketeers – Stand in for fell bats. The idea to this was spawned from a search through my bits-box that unveiled a lot of hunter killer missiles. Looking at these, I thought about rocket knights, and who was better at rocketry than dwarves. The story behind this unit is that the old count hires a dwarven engineer called Rygnar and entrust him with the task of providing some rocket powered knights.

Display Cabinet – Steam-punk VC ’Auto Reaper’

A while back a started a modelling / painting project that was based on a steam punk themed vampire counts army. I’ve been fascinated by steam punk setting ever since I met it for the first time in the computer RPG called Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcanum:_Of_Steamworks_and_Magick_Obscura).

So one day I got the idea of combining steam-power and Necromancy, and the idea for a steam-punk based VC project. I’m quite fond on some of the creations that I’ve made for this project and I’m going to show you these over the coming days.

I’m going to start with the Auto Reaper – A mechanized corpse cart that was inspired by the modern reapers. I started off by looking for a suitable steering house / reaper part, and cam across the old snotling pump wagon, that in fact is some kind of reaper – All I had to do was to build a conveyer belt that could take the recently reaped bodies to the corpse chart. The engineer on top is one of the old handgunners from a previous WFB start kit.

Modelling the Auto Reaper was great fun, and I must say that I’m very impressed with the quality of the new corpse cart. Painting was done with comic book style in mind, looking for a colourful look – Very different from the dirty look of w40k.
