Display Cabinet – The Catachan Morgul Khamir

Let us open the display cabinet once more and have a look at one of my early w40k conversions. I made this for a painting challenge many years ago, wanting to kickstart a Catachan roughrider project. I wanted a bikergang, riding Space Marine bikes, so I made this one as a prototype on the gang, and that led me to abandon the thought of using the SM bike as mount for a whole unit of riders.

I remember the conversion work to be cumbersome and requiring many odd bits to make the rides stick on the bike. The legs for instance are those from a Ork wartrack. Another thing that struck me was the fact that such a large bike would have a hard time maneuvering in the jungle. So instead of making myself a whole gang of these it ended up as a one off.

I would use him as Morgul Khamir, if I was ever to field him in a battle, but that is another story…

Enjoy!

Expanding the motorpool: Chimera

Another tank joins the motor poll –The command chimera ‘Pirana’ for the Catachan XI is now complete – This means that I have completed all my IG tanks, with the exception of one super heavy and a Valkyrie. :o)
You can see the paint process in the posts called “Expanding the motorpool: Hellhound & Chimera”.

Gunny Harker

WIP: Gunnery Sergeant Harker has been on the wish list for some time now, but has for some reason been unavailable in both the local store and my Internet doll pusher. I have one now, Gunny Harker in a home made version that is.

I was working on some Melta veterans for my IG force, when I came across a head in the bit box that had SGT Harker written all over it, and from there I was tour the bits boxes to find the other pieces. I wanted to get a more action-oriented pose than the official Harker model, looking for something like this.

The bits used are:
Head: WoC Marauder Horseman
Torso, left arm & legs: Catachan Troopers
Right arm: WoC Marauder
Heavy bolter: Valkyrie doormounted HB.
Ammo feeds: Ork w40k
Ammo Box: IG vehicle
Grenades: IG Cadian Troopers

Here is the result – Note that some cleanup will be done before the model is to be primed / painted.

And the official Harker for comparison:

Expanding the motorpool: Hellhound & Chimera

Modelling a Hellhound straight out of the box, and building a Chimera for company command or some veterans is what I have been doing the last couple of days. Lets look at the Chimera first…

I wanted a ride for company command or some veterans (depending on the list played), and I wanted it to look very different from my other 3 Chimeras that are assembled w/o any conversions or bling. The idea was to make a vehicle that was heavily loaded for a longer campaign in isolated areas, and with my army theme being Catachans I had to include a Rambo driver. The basis of this was the vehicle accessories sprue, backpacks from the hwy weapons sprue and bits from the battlefield accessories sprue.

The other tank assembled was a Hellhound – There is not much to see, but my reason for showing is to remind people to consider painting and gaming, before gluing everything in place. As you see I haven’t glued in the fuel, top cover and back hatch. Reason for that is that I need to get access to the barrels for priming and painting. Another thing not glued is the turret mounted weapon. The new Hellhound allows various variants, and if not glued, they’re interchangeable, allowing you to field e.g. a Devil Dog in stead of a Hellhound just by switching the turret weapon – No magnets, no magic :o)

Hunter or prey?!

For a paint challenge on Danish Warhammer forum Powerfist I created this Catachan stalker waiting for prey. The challenge is to paint something that fits the theme of hunter or prey. This one was fun to do, especially the green blending on the leaves and vegetation was fun – Not to mention modeling this guy. All bits used are plastic, from the WFB WE range and the w40k Catachan range. I’m sure that the hidden stalker will make an excellent objective counter for my Catachan army.

Enjoy!

Display Cabinet - The Duke

One of the minis in my Catachan army that received a lot of attention on the tournament I recently attended was my remake of the Duke aka Duke Nuke ‘Em. As a response to that, I have looked at my collection of pictures, and found those that shows how the display base and the duke was modeled.

The inspiration:

Modeling the display base:
I wanted a min that could be used for gaming, so I made a base resting on top of the display base. It just turned out that the claw of the Genestealer was just perfect to make the base stick to the display stand…

Modelling the Duke:
Catachan troopers wear sun-glasses, so that made the selection of the head easy, all I had to do was to add a flat-top hair-cut using greenstuff. The bandoliers is modeled using bits from the Space Marine Scout Bikers + greenstuff.

Painting the display base:
